So I looked up Cutting for Stone and discovered I bought it in 2014! I guess it is time to read it.

Thanks Hal, this is a moving and wonderful story. Just to share another book you might be interested in. Michael’s (and now mine) dear friend of more than 40 years, Fran Parker, movemovement specialist and therapist recommended ‘This is Happiness’ my Niall Williams because it is a homage to the art of storytelling in detail, as well as the art of listening. It’s on my hold list-wait-listed. Can’t wait. Just reread Mink River by Bryan Doyle whose story is all about storytelling. Just so you know//you’re a master store teller, and I’m so delighted to be a recipient!!

This is so beautiful, Hal. My mother and two siblings had severe bi-polar disorder. At one point she ran away telling me she was “going to live on the streets with the holy people.” All of them we’re very talented but none were lucky enough to have the focus and brilliance of Devanie. May she continue to take her insightful photos and share them with us. ♥️

Thanks so much for mentioning "The Mike File," Hal. I love your story here of Devanie and her striking work--and we'll hope to stop by and see her pictures when we head down to Zion country for my reading at the Book Bungalow on Saturday. I'll be in conversation with Lynne Cobb, as in Springdale last month, and Lynne's deep experience as a therapist makes Mike's story even more universal. We'll miss seeing you and Teresa. But I hope your post here brings some other friends to the bookstore in St. George. May Portland treat you two well!
