My reinterpretation of the old cowboy classic, “The Night Herding Song.” It's a nod to the skills of night herding and in particular to one former slave and revered cowboy, Charlie Willis (1847-1930)
What a fabulous post...and how timely when we all need a lullaby to soothe us for the hard times ahead. Some kind of stampede feels imminent, and this post--so rich with background, history, individual character, animals, harmonium, mystic Gurdjieff, and your voice, Hal--all restores me for the herding into a better future we may do together.
Took me back to the ranch property I worked on in the ‘70s. You didn’t need to sing or play an instrument to hear the songs of the night prairie! Thank you Hal!
Our border collie, Maggie used to nose open the door to my music room and curl up at my feet whenever she heard me playing my guitar or mandolin, until she saw me pick up my fiddle…at which time she would quickly and silently skulk out the door, with her head down and her tail between her legs. We lost her five years ago, and I still miss her.
Ah, what a lovely morning - I'm awake and calmed. This is so much warmer than another cup of tea. Loved your song and the movie clip. Thanks for enchantment, Hal.

Another masterpiece, Bravo!! Found myself drifting across night shrouded plains, skirting bear, puma and wolf, all the while singing the heard calm.

greetings Lauren, thank you for subscribing. Didnt make it to any of the old-time music gathering but darn singing with you sounds like a good idea.
Genius! You really brought out the
magnificent sound of the harmonium.
